News Update December 2014

December brings on the start of yearling preparation for the 2015 APG Yearling Sales scheduled in Melbourne Sunday 1st February, 2015.  Yorkshire Park will be represented by four yearling fillies in the Melbourne APG sale, one filly in the Sydney APG sale on the 28th February, 2015 and one yearling trotting colt at the Melbourne Trotters sale on the 8th of March, 2015.

These are very exciting times for Yorkshire Park as we start to see the development of our yearlings as they take shape for the sales.  No doubt it is with some sadness that we get them ready for the sales after having them around us for some time now.  The excitement of sales day, the expectation and uncertainty all add up to making yearling sales time a great one to look forward to.

I’m often asked which yearling do I like the most at this stage and it is a difficult question to answer.  On the breeding side I don’t think you can go past our Sundon yearling colt in the Trotters sale, being the only Sundon trotter in the sale and out of a half sister to two NZ Derby winners in King Charlie and Shezoneoftheboyz.  Also I’m really pleased with our Art Major filly out of Lombo Socialite a daughter of the great Lombo Rapida.  A terrific type, great attitude and a very relaxed filly.  On looks alone you would undoubtably pick our For A Reason filly out of the NZ mare Our Suicide Blonde, she is a stunner which might be the reason she got the stable name of Elle.

A great run by Watch The Dream on Miracle Mile night at Menangle when finishing 4th in the Group 2 Chokin 3YO Championship final in 1.53.8.  She worked home really well in a fast run race and was doing her best work at the end. We think she has a good future and our aim will be on the Oaks races coming up in the new year.

This week we hoped to see our fifth foal on the ground as Shes In Vogue (Star) is due to foal to Major In Art.  An absolute favourite amongst everyone at Yorkshire Park we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first foal.

Cavalier Christian is progressing well despite a couple of setbacks in his preparation for the racing season.  A bit frustrating at times and a challenge for trainer Paul Campbell we are confident that you will see him at the races shortly.  Good news from the Graham Lyon stable with our Major In Art 2YO gelding also progressing nicely as he steps up his work towards a racing debut.  Currently on the market he continues to improve and we are pleased with his progress.

Nothing further to report out of NZ with our Changeover filly Whitney H as she recovers from an injury earlier in the season.  We are hopeful to have her back on deck shortly as she has already qualified to race and shows good potential.  Interestingly her half brother Glenferrie Hood passed the $100,000 dollar mark in prize money recently.
