News Update May15

Whitney H ran a terrific race at Phar Lap Raceway, Timaru today (10th May) finishing 4th after leading them up in the straight only to be beaten 1.6 lengths in 2.5.7 over 2600m.  Despite misbehaving at the start and being relegated to the outside of the second line Whitney showed great speed to lead within 250 metres of the start.  Driver John  Hay rated her well in front and she fought on well in the straight only to be grabbed in the final stages.  Whitney will have another start next week before a decision will be made to bring her to Australia or not.

Keep an eye out for Cavalier Christian on Tuesday night at Bendigo as he to will make his race track debut for Yorkshire Park and their fellow owners.  Good luck to Jackson who will also contest the race against Aitutaki another Yorkshire Park bred 3 YO.

****Update****

Whitney H went round in a trial at Ashburton NZ today (5/5/15) and came away with a win over 2400M.  Winning the trial by a length rating 2.5.3, last 800m in 57.0 and last 400m in 28.9 she will now make her racetrack debut at Timaru NZ on Sunday 10th May under the guidance of John Hay.

Other Yorkshire Park bred horses trialling on the weekend included Changeover Fella 2nd Maryborough, Social Fireball 4th (Qualified) at Maryborough, Ann of York 4th at Maryborough and Cavalier Christian 3rd at Bendigo.

*********

It’s great to be back home from a couple of weeks off at our nephews wedding at Kingscliff on the sunny north coast of New South Wales.  We certainly enjoyed the sunshine, beach and the wedding but it is good to be back amongst the horses again.

On the racing side of things Watch The Dream returned home and is in the paddock enjoying a well earned break.  We did see her yesterday and she is in good shape and will most likely spend another month in the paddock before returning to the racing scene.  Cavalier Christian won a trial at Maryborough while we were away and he will venture to Bendigo Trials on Monday (4th May) and if he goes ok will most likely make his race track debut the following week.  It has been a long road with the Ponder 3 year old but it looks as though we might get there shortly.  Whitney H won a workout in  New Zealand recently and will trial again in the next week before she will also look to make her race track debut.  I Can Dream our purchase at this years Wrightson yearling sale has been broken in and now in the paddock, both of these fillies are under the care of John Hay at Ashburton.  Our Major In Art two year old has been leased out and will head to the stables of Chris Svanosio in the next month.  Also a big shout out to the Girls Unite Syndicate who race Union Ally who last Thursday added the Ballarat Oaks to her impressive win record.  Part owned by Brenda, Pat, Claire and Ashlee from Yorkshire Park and trained by Maree Campbell this little pocket rocket certainly knows how to find the line.  Next mission will be the Sires Stakes series for her.

The remainder of our yearlings are also finding homes as our Art Major/Lombo Socialite filly has headed to the John Caldow stable and our Roll With Joe/ Ima Ritzi Lombo filly has been sold and will head to NSW in the coming weeks.  Our Major In Art/Back Cover Lover filly has returned home after being broken in by Paul Campbell and we will give her a bit of time as she is only 14 hands but has plenty of spirit. The other yearlings, For A Reason/Our Suicide Blonde is recovering from her back injury and the Mr.Feelgood/Fay Christian yearling will spend more time in  the paddock to develop. The weaning process has begun with our Falcon Seelster and Auckland Reactor fillies both returning home Sunday soon to be followed by two of our colts Somebeachsomewhere and Smiling Shard.

Great to see Aitutaki (Ponder – Go Letitia) bred by Yorkshire Park break through for  win at Bendigo under the guidance of Col Later and also a number of Yorkshire Park bred horses appearing at the trials.  Changeoverfella, Ann of York, Social Fire Ball and Cavalier Christian all going around at the moment.

Also good to see the “Montieth Audit” report on harness racing issued with it’s series of recommendation for potential changes to the industry.  One thing for sure the industry does need some change and we look forward to some of the recommendations being implemented in the near future.

Well that’s abut all for the moment but if you are interested in joining us in harness racing, even in a small way, get in contact with us and you too can enjoy the excitement of harness racing.

More updates to follow.
