News Update July 15

*****News Update*****

(16th July, 2015)

Social Fireball broke through for a well deserved win at Maryborough today winning by 1.1 metres in a time of 2.3.0 last half in 59.6 driven by Gavin Lang.  Congrats to Brooke Hansen and Tim O’Brien on the success.  A really tough effort to win, well done.

A fantastic effort by Social Fireball to finish 2nd in the Group 1 Sires Stakes on Friday night beaten by 2.7 metres in a mile rate of 2.3.5.  From barrier 11 she had no choice but to go back early then making her move three wide from the 900 metre mark she quickly made ground only to find the winner a bit to good on the night.  A great effort and no doubt we will see a win for her shortly.  Congratulations to Brooke Hanson and Tim O’Brien for the effort put into this filly.

Big news tonight (7th July)!!!  Whitney H ventured to Kilmore tonight for her first Australian start and duly saluted winning in a mile rate of 1.58.3.  Coming from barrier three she quickly headed to the lead and despite still learning the racing caper found the line well winning by 2.9 metres reeling off a quick 57.5 last half.  Well done to John & Maree Caldow and a big thanks to our NZ trainer John  Hay for his efforts.

July brings great excitement for Yorkshire Park with Social Fireball (Courage Under Fire – Lombo Socialite) contesting the Group 1 2 YO Trotting Fillies Empire Stallions Super Sires Stake series final at Melton on Friday 3rd over 2240 metres to be driven by Gavin Lang.  Bred at Yorkshire Park and trained by Brooke Hanson the filly hasn’t drawn great at the barrier (11) but has the services of the best driver in the country in Gavin Lang.  The filly has ventured to the races on three previous occasions with a ripper fourth in the Tatlow Final and a solid performance to finish second at Ballarat recently in a heat of the Sires Series.  We wish the owners and Brooke all the very best on Friday night and we are looking forward to being there to watch her perform.  Fingers crossed that all goes well.

Whitney H will make her Australian race track debut on Tuesday 7th July at Kilmore over the 1690 metre journey.  She won a trial recently at Melton and has since worked well in the lead up to this event.  Trained by Marie Caldow and being driven by John Caldow we look forward to see how she performs since arriving from New Zealand earlier in June.  Purchased by Yorkshire Park at the 2013 Christchurch yearling sales, Whitney H is a half sister to the well performed Glenferrie Hood out of the McCarthy stables who has won around $180,000 to date.  Whatever happens on Tuesday night we expect that she will continue to improve over the coming months.

Watch The Dream continues her preparation in the Shane Tritton stable and we will look forward to seeing “Dreamy” back on the race track in the very near future.  A winner of 4 from 14 starts we think that she will provide us with further race track excitement.

Our yearlings continue to go through their early education under the guidance of Paul Campbell at Maiden Gully with our For A Reason – Our Suicide Blonde filly and the Major In Art – Back Cover Lover filly progressing well.

Over the last couple of weeks we have seen the return of our weanlings to our place at Emu Creek with three fillies and one colt back home.  We will continue with some early education for the weanlings and look forward to their development along the way.  The weanlings this year are as follows:

Falcon Seelster – Vicky Murphy filly, Auckland Reactor – My Little Black Dress filly, Lincoln Royal – Our Suicide Blonde filly and the Major In Art – Shes In Vogue colt.  We will also have our Somebeachsomewhere – Lombo Socialite colt and Smiling Shard – Rock Me Gently colts joining us in the next couple of weeks.

Lots happening in the coming months so we look forward to bringing you update with the latest news.  Until then.

Good luck,

Yorkshire Park team.
