News Update February 2019

News: News: News:

The beginning of February is a busy time with the APG Yearling sales kicking off at Oaklands Junction and what a weekend it was. The newly renovated sales complex was fantastic and certainly helped to create and exciting atmosphere as 200 + yearlings went through the sales.

This year Yorkshire Park was represented by Lot No 146 a colt by Somebeachsomewhere out of Vickymurphy who was knocked down to Michael Stanley for $22,000.  We were really pleased with the way he presented and a big thanks must go to Dean & Blanche Poole and the team for the way in which they prepared the colt.  Not only was it a day to sell some of the finest yearlings in Australia but a great chance to catch up with a number of past purchasers of Yorkshire Park stock.  It was great to see Peter Tuson who purchased last years filly by Western Terror out of Vickymurphy and to get an update on how she is progressing and I’m pleased to say she is coming along well.  Terrific also to catch up with Peter & Rachelle from NZ Standardbred Bloodstock and I look forward to being in Christchurch NZ for the NZ yearling sales in a fortnight.  And whilst on last years yearlings the recently syndicated Rock N Roll Heaven filly out of My Little Black Dress NZ has been named “She Will Rock” and already been to the work outs.

Great to see the Yorkshire Park bred Go Home Jo greet the judge on Sunday (3/2/19) in WA with a comprehensive 11 metre win.  She has been a model of consistency for her new owners and I’m sure many more wins are in store for the Roll With Joe mare.

Lutetia Midfrew has had two starts back since resuming and both have been a little disappointing.  A change of gear will hopefully make a difference as she will head to Melton on Monday 11th for her next start. Our Village Jolt filly (Tess) returned home from the breakers for a six week spell and I’m really pleased and quite excited about her prospects.  Our Sportswriter yearling colt (Jake) headed off the breakers today and our entry in this years Australian Premier Trotting Sale, a colt by Love You out of La Tonneralla headed to the preparers for the sale on the 3rd March.

Not all great news unfortunately as we lost our Broodmare Jewel Bromac recently to illness and all our efforts now are on ensuring her recently born foal, a filly by Western Terror, is well cared for and looked after.  A big thanks to all the team at Northern Rivers Veterinary Clinic for their efforts with the mare and now their focus on ensuring the foal is ok.

Since we last updated our broodmare news Watch The Dream has been confirmed in foal to Art Major and Vickymurphy has a 15 day positive test to Sunshine Beach.  That will give us five mares in foal for the coming year.

A big congratulations to HRV on the last month of Harness Racing with the Interdominion, Victoria Derby, Great Southern Star and on Saturday night the Hunter Cup.  And boy what a race it was!  Tiger Tara was awesome in demolishing a really good field in track record time and for those who had the privilege of seeing the Tiger in action it will be one to remember.  What a season for the Tiger with wins in the Interdominion, Victoria Cup, Hunter Cup and a very unlucky second in the New Zealand Cup plus a close second in the Cranbourne Cup.  Super horse and well done to Kevin Pizzuto and Todd McCarthy for the way in which they have handled the horse.

That’s about all for now.

Good luck and good punting.
