News Update February, 2018.

News, News, News:

What a start to February with the excitement of the APG Yearling Sales in Melbourne and the Summer of Glory Carnival which produced some of the very best harness racing seen for some time.

Let’s start with the Summer of Glory Carnival and a big crowd turned out to see a dominant display by the champion pacer Lazarus in the A G Hunter Cup which was nothing short of amazing.   I had the pleasure of seeing him demolish a good field in the NZ Cup at Addington in November and his run in the Hunter Cup just confirmed that he is the second best horse I’ve seen behind Popular Alm, although he is closing the gap quickly.  The Victoria Derby produced a boilover with the Queensland pacer Colt Thirty One storming home to get the chocolates while the performance of Sparkling Success in the Great Southern Star was a nothing short of brilliant and a great story to go with it.  If you didn’t get excited about harness racing over the three week period then you would be hard to please.  A big well done to the HRV Marketing team as well, a terrific job in promoting and ensuring the success of the carnival.

The APG sales was a tough result for Yorkshire Park with the Western Terror filly selling for $15,000 and our Rock N Roll Heaven filly not getting close to the reserve.  We will now look to syndicate the filly and race her  in partnership with friends and family.  We will have some shares available so if you are interested drop us a line at Yorkshire Park.  The Australian Premier Trotting Sale will be held at Melton on Sunday 11th March and Yorkshire Park will be represented by two fillies by Angus Hall and Majestic Son.  Lets hope for a better outcome with both these well bred fillies.

On the racing scene Pearlescent greeted the judge for her second career win at Mildura winning impressively by 11 metres in 2.0.4.  Following on from that effort we can report that the mare has since been sold and will transfer to her new owners and trainer in the coming weeks.  Artful Christian performed well in the heat and final of the Group 3 $30,000 Rising Star series and will head to Bendigo in a slightly lower class on Wednesday night – can he make it win number 10?   Whosashadylady just got nailed on the line at Devonport but gets her chance to atone when she lines up at Carrick on Saturday from the coveted pole position.  In NZ our 2 Y O filly Lutetia Midfrew has resumed her campaign while Rosa Parks will spend a little bit longer in the paddock following a virus which stopped her preparation.

Over the last month or so our mares and foals have returned to Yorkshire Park and the enjoyment of spending time around the foals is terrific.  So they now all have stable names which is always a interesting process.  Let’s see what you think.

Sportswriter x Lombo Socialite Colt – Stable name is Jake.

Love You x La Tonneralla Colt – Stable name is – Rusty.

Alta Christiano x Jewel Bromac Colt – Stable name is Bob.
